Next event was long jump which is when you run and jump into sand. Then your jump is measured and recorded. Jake measured the greatest distance at 3.55 metres.
The following event was high hump. High jump is when you jump over a bar and land on a safety mat. Monique and Victoria were in the finals because they jumped the highest.
After high jump, we tried our luck at ball throwing. Ball throwing is an event that you need arm strength for. The aim of the event is to throw the ball as far as possible in the right direction. Brinkley threw the farthest throw out of the year 5 girls.
Our Feelings
Bhasura: :I felt good because I could put my skills to the test in throwing the ball and in sprints. I was chosen for the top six in throwing the ball. In the first round in sprints I came second then in the semi finals I came third but in the finals I came last. However I still feel proud to at least make it to the finals in the sprints.
Brian: I felt disappointed about all of my scores because all of my scores were worse than last year.
Dean: I felt bad because I cut my foot on the race track. Overall I think it was a great day because I was in the sprint finals with a cut foot. It was very exciting
Felisa: Overall, the Athletics day was good. The rain drizzled over us for a while but that didn’t stop us from being so awesome! I surprised myself in sprints. Who would have thought that I could outrun Liz for more than two seconds? I felt good because I tried my very best and the day was fun. Mostly everyone had a good time and the events were challenging, depending on who you competed against.
Hyun-A: I felt proud of myself because I tried my best in every event and kept positive at all times. It always feels good to come 1st, 2nd or 3rd in something, and I felt proud because I came second in the final running race. The athletics day was fun and exciting.
Jadon: I felt very proud because I came first in sprits and first in the semi finals then I came sixth in the finals. Jake said that if you wore shoes you become speedy However I wore no shoes.
Jae;Ha: I felt I have to jump higher, run faster, jump longer and throw harder.
I was disappointed when I didn’t jump over the bar because every one jumped over the bar. I felt very sad because all the events were too hard.
Jake: I felt unhappy because people that won in sprints were wearing bare feet like Dong Hyang and he beat everyone. I’m a fast runner and I came last because I was the only one who was wearing shoes. Overall I think that runners should either wear shoes or we all don’t wear shoes. I think we should all wear shoes because Dean ran in bare feet and he sliced his foot open.
Kevin: I felt really bad because I did very badly in every event except for the sprints. I also felt very hungry because the year six boys could take a break until after the sprint semi-finals which were around twelve o’clock.
Lewis: I felt like I had a fun and a great time. I learnt that you run better in bare feet then shoes.
Lily: I felt really bad because I do not fit in as an athletic girl. It was hard for me and for Newmarket Primary School. But I came third at the semi finals.
Liz: I felt really happy when I beat Victoria in the final race. Also Miss Geddes and Mrs Kung were saying me that I was third and beat Victoria. I was so happy. But at just normal sprint I came second at first game and second at second game.
At high jump my start was good. So I went in the final too. But at last something was a mistake. I went out of the real finals. Still I went into finals. I was happy. Because I was like 4th or 5th in high jump.
Metin: I felt so scared I was just about to run against the fastest person in the school. Toes behind the line, on your marks, get set, BANG! I was running as fast as I could. But was I coming first. I stopped and I had come second then a lady gave me stick that had the number 2, I was so happy.
Michelle: I felt sleepy because the day before I didn’t get enough sleep. But I was still glad because I came third in high jump. Other than high jump, I didn’t have a placing. Overall I had a great time there. I wish people luck that are going to the athletics zone.
Monique: I felt HAPPY because I came 2nd in high jump and I loved it.
I like high jump because I love jumping up into the air and over the bar landing on a nice cushion.
Honor: I felt tired after a hard day of sports at Mt Smart .It was like my legs could move. It was OK being at Mt Smart because I was not good at it.
Nathan: Overall, I felt happy because I got the chance to take part in events and a day which I have not experienced before and explored places that I have not seen before. In the bus I noticed better views and sights that I have not seen before in my experiences and my new life.
Scarlett: I felt excited about ball throw because last year I came first with a sore leg and it was the only event I could attend. This year I came second and my father was very proud of me. Overall I believe that every one should attend their athletics day because otherwise you will regret it.
Shae: I felt really sick after athletics because I had a really bad headache but overall I think it was fun. I think the best event was ball throwing because I am good at it and it is kind of like a game so it makes it even more fun.
Srishti: I felt like my legs were turning into jelly because I ran as fast as I could in the sprints and my thighs started to feel like they weighed a lot. I would think that this day was a day to make you feel over weight.
Taylor: Overall I felt a bit disappointed that I didn’t place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any events but I think I should have tried harder.
My favourite event was relays because my team came first in all rounds and it was a heap of fun.
William: I felt happy because I came 1st in the high jump, 1st in sprints and 3rd in long jump. High jump is when you line up diagonally to the safety mat and run curving in towards the mat. The aim is to jump as high as you can. I jumped 1 metre. At long jump I jumped 2.81 metres. I got beaten by Harry and Junior in room 9.
Fantastic writing, Room Ten. I especially like how your personal voices are coming through in your writing.
